The Ministry of the United Church of Canada through our congregation of St. James Centennial United Church is honoured to be available to you at this time.
This page provides some practical information and the answers to some often asked questions which we hope will assist you and answer concerns you may have. If you are using the services of a funeral home, the staff there will answer many of these and other questions. Often many of the planning details are taken care of by the funeral home, and you would then meet with our Minister, Joe Gaspar, to discuss the content of the service.
Our sanctuary has a seating capacity of up to 600.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Does the deceased have to have been a member of the United Church of Canada, or a practicing Christian in order to have his or her funeral at St. James?
In regards to funerals, our primary focus is on providing support and religious services to people of a United Church background. If you come from a different background there are many other Christian denominations represented in Parry Sound that we are sure could help you. If you are looking for a secular service the two funeral homes in town can refer you to people who will be able to help you. However, if for whatever reason none of these other options work out, please feel free to get in touch with us. We will conduct funeral services for people of all faiths and no faith.
Is there a charge for the funeral?
Yes, there is a charge that will be arranged with the Minister and the Church Administrator. The fee includes an honorarium for Minister, Organist and Staff
What should I do to arrange a funeral?

Are there restrictions on the day and time a funeral can be held?

Does St. James offer catering services?
Depending on time and volunteers available, sometimes our United Church Women’s group is able to offer their services. Otherwise finding caterers would be your responsibility.
